The green flag will be displayed at the restart, followed by the white flag with one lap to go, and finally the checkered flag will fall to signal the end of the race. When a caution flag is displayed in the final two laps of a race, NASCAR will continue to the finish under yellow flag conditions. All cars that remain on the track must cross the starting line and pass under the checkered flag to complete their final laps. If a driver does not immediately go to pit road during the fifth lap, a black flag will appear to indicate that their on-track progress is no longer being recorded. The white flag indicates that the race is effectively over with only one lap left. The flagman is in charge of controlling the race, as well as carrying out flag-waving duties.
